In the heart of Borivali, one of Mumbai’s bustling suburbs, lies a residential building that recently underwent a spectacular metamorphosis. The building’s new lobby isn’t just an entryway—it’s a statement. Designed to blend timeless sophistication with contemporary luxury, the reimagined space sets a bold tone of welcome while reflecting the identity of the building’s evolved community.

The Design Brief

The client’s intent was clear: reimagine the outdated lobby into one that evokes luxury, warmth, and awe from the moment you step inside. The design had to elevate first impressions, enhance functionality, and embody the premium nature of the residence without appearing cold or overly sterile.

Grand Arrival Experience

From the street-facing view, the transformation begins with a sweeping, curved glass façade—a transparent threshold that invites you in and reveals the glowing interiors. This transparent skin also blurs the boundary between the outdoor and indoor, drawing in natural light and offering a stunning preview of the lobby’s grandeur.

Sculptural Volumes and Warm Lighting

At the heart of the space, a dramatic curved wall cladded in polished marble with a vertical spine of textured light becomes the focal point behind the sleek reception desk. This gesture adds both mass and monumentality to the central core, ensuring a striking entrance. The marble cladding, in rich brown tones with white lighting inlays, creates a perfect contrast of warmth and contemporary elegance.

Fluid Ceilings with Layered Lights

The curvilinear false ceiling design guides the eye naturally across the space. Integrated cove lighting and recessed spotlights highlight the sinuous lines, creating a calming, cloud-like canopy above. This lighting not only enhances the ambiance but also subtly defines different zones in the open-plan lobby.

Flooring That Anchors the Space

The flooring pattern is a standout feature: bold black and brown inlays in a diamond motif anchor the expansive white tiles, echoing the symmetry and precision of high-end hospitality design. This geometric language flows across the entire lobby, connecting the waiting areas, reception, and corridors.

Out N Out Studio’s redesign is a bold statement in Mumbai’s residential landscape—proving that even common areas can be curated with the finesse of luxury hotels while staying rooted in everyday utility.
